How to use email expiration dates in Sendingly (Numberly) ?

33 billion emails are sent every day worldwide, and most of them become obsolete within days/weeks of receipt…while they remain stored indefinitely in data centers around the world.

In response to this and Numberly’s strong engagement with societal and environmental issues, the NMP (Numberly Martech Platform) Sendingly module is evolving to allow senders to define when the email will become obsolete. The expiration delay can be configured for each type of email:

  • One shot email
  • Automatic email
  • Transactional email

How does it work?

  • An expiry time of 180 days is set by default for all existing clients and for all new clients created on the NMP.
  • The deadline does not apply retroactively to tactical and automatic campaigns already scheduled, nor to application campaigns already published. They will need to be edited to apply the delay.
  • The expiry date does not apply to test emails.

Client configuration on Sendingly

From the settings page, a new “Email Options” section allows users to configure the expiration delay. You can:

  • Enable or disable the expiration delay option for each type of campaign: one shot, automatic, transactional
  • Set the expiration delay in number of days (180 days by default).

The expiration delay configured at client level will be displayed in a new insert when a new campaign is created. It can be changed for each campaign.

You must have the Sendingly General Admin user permission to configure the client settings.

Setting up the delay on a campaign

When the expiration delay option is activated for the client and for the desired campaign type, a new insert is displayed on the campaign creation/editing page:

The expiration delay displayed corresponds to the one configured in the client settings and is editable.

The expiration date is calculated on the basis of the sending order. For example :

  • Scheduled routing 2022/12/24 at 4.30pm
  • Expiration delay set to 4 days
  • Expiration date of the email : 2022/12/28 at 4.30pm

Note: for transactional emails, it is the email-routing api that calculates the expiration date as soon as it receives the sending order.

You can find the expiration delay in the campaign’s programming modal, as well as on the campaign’s details page :
